AME President Cheryl Felice Seeks a 60 Day Extension to Early Retirement Incentive Program
When Governor Paterson offered the County Executives throughout New York State the opportunity to sign on to an Early Retirement Incentive package (ERIP), he provided the approved bill but left the many particulars of eligibility up to the County Executives. The time-period for the ERIP, however, can and should be extended by the Legislature, to 60 days. Read More > - Posted on Thu, Jul 15th, 2010 12:00:00 am

Important Retirement News for AME Members!
County Executive Levy has put forth his own proposal to adopt the Early Retirement Incentive package – but not in the full context as it was provided by our New York State legislators.
Although Levy plans to put an emergency resolution before the County Legislature on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, He has decided to bar those workers in public safety jobs (those who are 50% or more reimbursed), as well as nursing home and consumer affairs positions – from taking part! Levy has also limited the backfilling of jobs vacated to 20%, which indicates the County's short staffing problem will worsen. Read More > - Posted on Tue, Jun 15th, 2010 12:00:00 am

AME's opposition to furlough against state workers
The Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees (AME) is firmly opposed to the state imposing any furloughs against state workers. It is unconscionable to believe that NYS workers should bear the brunt of a shaky economy. "Why is the public employee always the first to be stripped of their dignity", asks Cheryl Felice, President of the SCAME. "The NYS budget remains delayed yet the public is being led to believe that the expedient way for this to be solved is by furloughing or laying-off workers? This would only aggravate an already overburdened unemployment arena. Who does the legislature thinks takes care of their constituents; especially during trying economic times? Its time that the lawmakers sit down with their employees to reasonably discuss ways to solve this crisis that all sides can live with," Felice added. Suffolk County AME & Labor Relations met today For "Collective Negotiations"
The AME Negotiating Team began its Monday, April 19th meeting with Labor Relations by meeting with the Executive Board and AME Counsel Brian O'Dwyer, Helen Wrobel, and O'Dwyer & Bernstien Labor/Management legal specialist Tom Ryan. Mr. Ryan is serving as an on-site Negotiations expert in every step of this formidable negotiations process. Brian O'Dwyer provided some important confidence in reminding this AME Team of the successful Union solidarity which existed during the prior Negotiations of 2004/2005. We stood together as one then, and we must stand together as one now! Just looking back at the last twelve months, most recently including the hostile CWA decertification raid attempt, we have triumphed over some very major hurdles – all of which have succeeded in making AME stronger and more focused!
