Attention SCCC Members--Important Deferred Comp Plan Information
4/1/2010 11:00:00 AM
- Cheryl A. Felice, President
Dear AME Members at Suffolk County Community College:
As President of the sole bargaining agent and representative for all employees of Bargaining Units 2 and 6, and duly recognized by the County of Suffolk including AME members at Suffolk Community College, I was extremely distressed to learn that Union members received what appears to be an official notice regarding deferred compensation plans–when the entire issue has still not been fully solidified and/or amended by the County.
To state further, I regret that you received a letter from the Chair of Deferred Compensation, Alan Schneider, stating that College members could no longer participate in the deferred compensation plan, due to an IRS ruling. There are still many legal questions over whether any changes at all should be made regarding the plan, together with the plan’s direct participating relationship to the AME members who work at the College.
Be assured that your AME Executive Board has taken this matter further and will file grievances on behalf of each and every AME member who stands to be impacted by this unilateral decision made for them–without their Union representation or agreement!
We will keep you informed as to the determination/changes/ results on this important matter. In that the County cites a transition period deadline of June 27, 2010, AME will act and respond timely so as to remain within ascribed legal parameters. If you wish to speak to your AME liaison about this matter, please feel free to call Josephine Passantino at 589-8400. Always remember: your Union is working for you!
Unity wins,
Cheryl A. Felice
President
